The Opportunity:
We are currently looking for an environmental/land reclamation professional to join our Horizon Long Range Mine Planning team. In this role, you will be given the opportunity to showcase your expertise by supporting the evaluation, development, and execution of conservation, reclamation and closure plans as well as field projects in an active surface mine setting. You will also provide technical and strategic support to Canadian Natural’s mine planning, geotechnical, projects, costing, environment and regulatory, and operations groups. Your contributions will help support the safe, reliable and cost effective operations of a world-class mining facility, guided by Canadian Natural’s core value of safety excellence.

•Shift schedule: 4 days on, 3 days off, 10 hr shifts

Key Accountabilities:
•Prepare the Conservation and Reclamation (C&R) volumetric and spatial plans for use in both internal and regulatory submissions as well as develop short and mid-range reclamation plans
•Develop C&R plans involving stockpile locations, soil placement strategies, maps, material balances, reports, and presentations to various audiences
•Manage and maintain the C&R timber and soils models for closure and reclamation planning
•Calculate and communicate C&R plan budgets and costing forecasts for short- and mid-range plans
•Develop and maintain a C&R database that provides inputs for various scales of planning and supports
•Collaborate with the mine geotechnical team on geomorphic landform and stockpile designs
•Collaborate with the mine operations, projects and planning teams on C&R plan execution, performance and forecast reporting
What You Bring to the Role:
•Degree in environmental science, geoscience, engineering, or technology, or diploma in environmental technology, engineering technology or geoscience is required
•Registration with APEGA, ASET or other environment professional regulatory body, or eligibility to register, is required
•Education or training in economics and/or project management, experience in geomatics or earthworks surveying, and experience with geospatial software and equipment such as ArcGIS and Minesight, are all considered assets
•Experience in mine reclamation and/or closure planning, scheduling, costing and reporting
•Must be comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with exposure to high profile deliverable timelines and challenging deadlines; must be able to carry out physical work in an industrial setting
•Must demonstrate effective communication, presentation and technical report writing skills aimed at audiences which include regulators, auditors, public stakeholders and senior company management
•Strong time management skills, the ability to work with minimal supervision, and a strong commitment to safety excellence
