JOB SUMMARY:

Northbrook Power Management is recruiting for a full time Hydroelectric Power Plant Operator to join our team to operate and maintain the Pinnacles and Talbott hydroelectric plants. In addition to the operations and maintenance duties, the plant operator conducts activities ensuring safety and environmental compliance. Our O&M teams perform periodic maintenance and annual plant shutdowns involving major maintenance activities under the direction of senior operators and company management.


PREREQUISITE REQUIREMENTS:

The successful candidate will possess a valid state driver’s license and must consent to and pass a background investigative check and drug screening as a condition of employment.

Candidates must have reliable and fully functional internet and cell phone, as well as reliable, insured transportation, while employed by Northbrook Power Management.


JOB DESCRIPTION:

The successful candidate will perform duties including, but not limited to, the following:

Operate and maintain hydro facilities and associated equipment/systems to maximize power generation.
Perform all physical plant, structural, and property inspections to include dams, penstocks, operationally required systems, ROWs, and other infrastructure as required.
Record and report power plant operational data, including water level, river flow, kW output, etc.
Perform preventative and predictive maintenance such as lubrication, fluid checks, electrical and mechanical checks, cleaning, painting, grounds maintenance, intake, forebay, penstock, dam and roadway maintenance, vegetation and debris removal.
Document and report any abnormal or changing conditions, including sounds, temperatures, vibrations, leaks and river conditions.
Perform maintenance activities as scheduled and required, and perform repairs to systems and equipment in a timely fashion.
Participate in and direct work performed by contractors.
When on-call, respond to alarms and unusual conditions at any time.
Immediately restart plant generation upon resolution of issues.
Perform inventory audits, parts ordering and restocking, and report inventory to management.
Coordinate with other hydropower providers, utilities, and government agencies as needed.
Continuously enhance training and personal knowledge of the facility.
Represent Northbrook Power Management and the facilities in a professional manner.
Comply with all safety, security, regulatory, and environmental requirements.


SKILLS REQUIRED:

At a minimum, this position requires a willingness to learn hydro operations and basic knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, with demonstrated maintenance experience in an industrial or commercial setting; proficient use of computer, MS Office software and internet; good written and oral communication skills, problem-solving skills and the ability to interact with regulatory agencies and other public entities. Familiarity with hydraulics, rotating machinery and PLC systems is desirable.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position involves performing physical labor including, but not limited to, walking, hiking, lifting, and climbing in a hydropower facility setting, which includes the outdoor environment of dams and rivers. The successful candidate must be in good general health, capable of lifting a minimum of 50 Lbs., and comfortable working in or around waterways and remote locations. Familiarity and experience working in and around rivers as well as outdoor environments is preferable.
