At Heath Consultants, we are seeking a Manufacturing Product Engineer to join our growing team! The Manufacturing Product Engineer bridges the gap between product design and manufacturing processes. This person will be responsible for ensuring a product can be effectively and efficiently manufactured, while also meeting quality standards and cost targets. This involves collaborating with design, process, test, and reliability engineering teams to troubleshoot issues, optimize production, and improve product yields. The Manufacturing Product Engineer plays a critical role in the product development life cycle, ensuring that products are not only designed to meet customer needs but can also be manufactured efficiently and to high-quality standards.
THIS ROLE IS FULL TIME IN OFFICE AT OUR HOUSTON, TEXAS LOCATION, NEAR HOBBY AIRPORT Salary range: $110,000 - $120,000 plus bonus potential Key Responsibilities
- Design for Manufacturing (DFM):
- Evaluating product designs for manufacturability and suggesting design changes to improve production efficiency and reduce costs.
- Developing and optimizing manufacturing processes, including defining process parameters, selecting equipment, and creating detailed process documentation.
- Identifying and resolving manufacturing issues, including low yields, defects, and equipment malfunctions.
- Product Testing and Evaluation:
- Conduct thorough testing of products, including functional, performance, and reliability tests. Also verify proper functionality and compliance with specifications.
- Identify and troubleshoot product defects or malfunctions.
- Ensure products meet all quality and regulatory standards.
- Use advanced diagnostic tools to assess the performance of electronic components and systems.
- Develop and execute test procedures to ensure product quality and reliability.
- Technical Support:
- Provide expert-level technical assistance to the product development and engineering teams.
- Resolve technical issues and ensure timely solutions for product development teams.
- Offer guidance on product-related queries and help in resolving escalated issues.
- Product Improvement:
- Work with design and engineering teams to suggest improvements or modifications for better product functionality or manufacturability.
- Review product design specifications and provide feedback based on technical expertise.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records of test results, issues, solutions, and changes made to products.
- Prepare reports and documentation for internal teams, management, and clients, as needed.
- Document troubleshooting techniques and product support procedures.
- Maintain detailed records of all maintenance, repairs, and modifications performed on equipment.
- Document technical issues and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Create detailed technical reports on equipment performance, tests, and repairs for both internal teams and customers.
- Project Collaboration with Teams:
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, and product managers to ensure that products meet both technical and market requirements.
- Participate in product reviews, brainstorming sessions, and planning meetings.
- Collaborate with engineers and product development teams to improve system designs and solve technical problems.
- Participate in project planning and ensure that technical specifications and quality standards are met during the implementation of new systems or equipment.
- Offer expert input during the design, testing, and deployment stages of electronic systems.
- Mentorship and Leadership:
- Provide training and mentoring to manufacturing technicians and production line coworkers.
- Guide team members in advanced troubleshooting techniques and product tests.
- Lead by example and contribute to the development of best practices within the team as well performed to the highest technical standards.
- Provide guidance on industry’s best practices, safety protocols, and technical procedures.
- Product Lifecycle Support:
- Provide ongoing support throughout the product lifecycle, from development to post-launch maintenance.
- Assist in evaluating product performance in real-world conditions and recommend adjustments or updates.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Support daily production issues; this encompasses both low yield analysis and disposition.
- Provide detailed analytical study on yield issues and drive corrective actions across the production process.
- Stay updated on the latest technological trends and techniques related to product development and maintenance, tools, and diagnostic techniques.
- Propose and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency, productivity, and product quality.
- Continuously improve knowledge of industry-specific standards, regulatory requirements, and emerging technologies.
- Propose and implement solutions to improve the performance and longevity of instruments.
- Health and Safety Compliance:
- Adhere to safety protocols and regulations when working with electronic components and systems.
- Ensure that work environments meet all health and safety standards, particularly when handling high-voltage equipment.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Required Skills and Qualifications:- Experience: 7+ years of experience in product testing, troubleshooting, or related technical field, also hands-on experience working with electronic systems and components.
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of product design, development, and testing methodologies, In-depth knowledge of electronics, circuit theory, electrical systems, and troubleshooting methods
- Problem Solving: Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to think critically to resolve complex issues.
- Tools Proficiency: Expertise in using a variety of tools, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, signal generators, and soldering equipment.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills to document processes, report findings, and collaboration with teams. Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical staff. Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, other technicians, and cross-functional teams.
- Software Skills: Proficiency in product testing software, and tools used in product, proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD), understanding of manufacturing processes and materials, knowledge of quality control principles, and familiarity with Lean Manufacturing methodologies development, and familiarity with diagnostic tools.
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electronics, Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or a related field) is typically required, with some employers preferring a master’s degree.
- Advanced certifications or technical qualifications in product testing, engineering, or a related discipline.
- Certification in electronics, such as IPC or other industry-recognized credentials.
- Familiarity with Agile or other project management methodologies.
- Experience in a specific industry (e.g., electronics, software, automotive) may be beneficial, depending on the company.
