The Managing Superintendent reports directly to the Division Manager or Project Executive (PE) if assigned full project duties by Division Manager. This position is senior level, providing oversight, and executing the tasks necessary for proper implementation and management of construction related activities to assure job quality and success on assigned job within the context of Septagon’s mission statement. Managing Superintendent will meet bi-weekly with Project Executive, Construction Manager (CM), field personnel and appropriate sub-contractors, as needed.
1. Comprehensive knowledge of methods in general construction practices.
2. Comprehensive knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the construction trade.
3. Enforces Septagon and project owner’s safety regulations and requirements for all construction activities.
4. Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are accurately followed.
6. Provides on-site coordination and supervision of all trade contractors and construction activities.
7. The Managing Superintendent will take on lead role for all on site activities including but not limited to safety, scheduling, quality control, site cleanliness, monitoring, and contractor relations.
8. Maintains and monitors job schedule as to crew, material, equipment, and coordinates requirements with area CM/Assistant Construction Manager (ACM).
9. Maintain project working schedules and develop detailed look ahead schedules for on-site coordination
10. Recommend corrective action should the project fall behind schedule, Implement the actions as required to minimize delay.
11. Provide the Project Executive (salesperson) and project coordinator with the necessary information to control the purchase order process. Maintains active contact with customer so as to monitor the entire purchase order process.
12. Schedule and assure delivery of materials to maintain schedule requirements.
13. Schedules sub-contractors to maintain schedule and coordinates/implements change orders.
14. Maintain a daily log of all activities, materials, meetings, and equipment usage related to all subs, suppliers, visitors, inspections, and Septagon employees.
15. Assist in obtaining and scheduling inspections of governmental authorities having jurisdiction over the project
16. Ability to work directly and interact with customers, architects, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and office personnel.
17. Works with Division Construction Manager/Assistant Construction Manager to coordinate self-performance.
18. Provides quality control support with onsite inspections to confirm compliance with latest approved drawings, supplemental instructions, submittals and shop drawings
19. Responsible for schedule, quality and customer satisfaction of particular project or multiple projects.
20. Coordinate and expedite resolution of all construction related challenges on site.
21. Assists with keeping the client informed as to job progress and schedules. Informs salesperson and CM/ACM of schedule changes and job definition problems or deviations on a daily or weekly basis.
22. Manage, coordinate and assist with the completion of final punch list.
23. Updates contract drawings related to changes made for as-built drawings.
24. Coordinates startup and maintenance training for customer with each trade contractor on applicable systems.
25. Represents the Septagon image and philosophy on the jobsite: i.e., professional conduct, fair solutions and customer service.
26. Travel to job sites, both in or out of state, as well as overnight travel, may be expected for some jobs.
27. Ensure accurate execution of tasks associated with employee-held certifications for specialty equipment, guaranteeing adherence to industry standards and safety protocols.
27. Work occasional evenings or weekends for special situations.
28. Punctual, dependable and prepared for work each day.

Minimum of ten years (10) of construction experience is required.
Specific skills needed for this position are as follows:
Analytical skills to plan a project strategy, handle unexpected issues and delays, and solve problems that arise over the course of the project.
Business skills to address budget matters, coordinate and supervise workers. Customer-service skills are necessary to form good working relationships with customers, sub-contractors and vendors.
Decision making skills are needed for choices on personnel and sub-contractors for specific tasks and job. At times, these decisions must be made quickly to meet deadlines and budgets.
Initiative is needed to assess situations independently andact to get things done, accurately and effectively.
Leadership skills are needed to effectively delegate tasks to construction workers, subcontractors, and other lower-level managers.
Speaking skills. Must give clear orders, explain complex information to construction workers and clients, and discuss technical details with other building specialists, such as architects.
Technical skills. Know construction processes and must be able to interpret contracts and technical drawings.
Time-managementskills.Superintendent must meet deadlines. They ensure that construction phases are completed on time so that the next phase can begin as scheduled. Writing skills.Must write proposals, plans, and budgets, as well as document the progress of the work for clients and others involved in the building process.
This position has supervisory responsibilities over on-site activities.
Physical Demands: At times, the physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The position routinely and repetitively lifts objects up to 25 pounds to waist height and up to 25 pounds to heights above your head. Employee must walk and stand for long periods of time, sometimes working 10 to 12 hours days and performing strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. The employee lifts, pushes, pulls or carries objects that weigh a minimum of 20 pounds; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, wrist with hand) and multi-limb coordination. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs. The employee must have excellent physical stamina and strength with the ability to use machinery and tools that vibrate, as well as drive a company vehicle or equipment for a full 8-hour day, or longer if needed. Movements such as stooping, twisting, bending, reaching, crouching, and handling are required. Audio, visual, and verbal functions are vital aspects to performing this position.

Environmental Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes of airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. The position regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, cold temperature, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
