The Laboratory Analyst will be responsible for testing coal samples to verify quality for customers. They may also participate in sample collection and preparation.
The Laboratory Analyst will generally work Monday to Friday, 10:00 pm to 6:00 am with opportunities for overtime on the weekends depending on workload.
- Perform all work in a safe manner while controlling hazards associated with tasks
- Receive and log samples into the laboratory database
- Confirm test methods following laboratory standards and protocols
- Test samples and operate laboratory equipment according to detailed procedures to ensure the reliability of analytical data
- Perform troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance on the instrumentation that is within the realm of the operators’ abilities and within compliance of instrumentation warranty programs
- Analyze retrieved data and record analyses into laboratory database for review
- Perform quality control tests in the lab as necessary
- Assist with testing and calibrating lab equipment in preparation for specific tasks
- Recognize and report any sample issues
- Follow all company policies and procedures to ensure sample integrity and quality control
- Keep the laboratory and all equipment clean
- High school diploma required
- Commercial and/or Coal laboratory experience preferred
- Proficient in laboratory techniques and operation of complex instrumentation
- Knowledge of computers and databases required
- Capable of prioritizing tasks to meet goals and ensure product quality
- Capable of multi-tasking to meet turn-around times and analysis demands
- Strong understanding of laboratory safety protocols and procedures
- Ability to take direction and work independently to complete tasks
- Sound problem solving skills with ability to be resourceful
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to work well with others
- Physical strength to lift 50 lbs.
