ROLE
The General Accountant is an integral part of Provident’ s dynamic and committed Finance team. Reporting to the Finance Manager, the General Accountant supports a wide range of accounting functions including data analysis in a fast-paced environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
•Prepare and post journal entries for revenue, expenses, and balance sheet items
•Reconcile general ledger accounts, including bank transactions and intercompany accounts
•Preparation and analysis of monthly revenue and expense accruals and accrual reversal journal entries
•Maintain subsidiary ledgers and prepare supporting schedules
•Verify and process accounts payable and receivable transactions
•Ensure proper filing, record keeping, and compliance with internal controls
•Monitor inventory and cost of goods sold (COGS); produce regular reports and analysis
•Prepare and maintain prepaid assets schedules and amortization
•Reconcile Fixed Assets detail in Business central, record depreciation journal entries and Prepare depreciation schedules
•Assist with payroll-related accounting and month-end accruals
•Daily/monthly banking transactions that include account transfers, daily bank deposits and reconciliations of various bank accounts
•Help manage data in accounting platforms (Dynamics 365 Business central, Microsoft Dynamic GP, Cogsdale, NorthStar, Power BI and Jet reports)
•Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for internal and external stakeholders
•Support the finance team with audits, year-end prep, and ad hoc reporting
•Participate in the development and implementation of accounting procedures and systems to improve efficiency and accuracy
•Provide operational support on accounting and finance matters to other departmental teams
•All other duties as assigned to meet Company objectives.
REQUIREMENTS
•University Degree in Accounting/Finance required, and preferably working towards CPA designation.
•3+ years of relevant accounting experience, ideally in submetering or energy sector.
•Solid knowledge of accounting principles (IFRS) and month-end processes
•Detail-oriented mindset and a knack for spotting discrepancies
•Comfortable juggling multiple tasks and meeting deadlines
•Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently
•Previous experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP and Dynamics 365 Business central, an asset.
•Advanced skills in MS Excel
•Knowledge and practical experience of the full accounting cycle.
•Strong analytical skills with an ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and customers.
•Highly motivated, self-starter with the ability to meet required deadlines.
•Able to work in a team environment and in a high stress, fast paced environment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
•Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
•Lifting or moving up to 10lbs may be required.
•Prolonged periods of time sitting and working at a desk.
