Here at USG we are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Fiber Optic Splicer to join our growing team. The candidate will be responsible for splicing, testing, and troubleshooting fiber optic networks to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
Responsibilities: Perform fusion and mechanical splicing on a variety of fiber optic cables, including single-mode and multi-mode. Read, interpret, and work from network blueprints, Google Earth maps, schematics, and fiber assignment documentation. Conduct comprehensive fiber testing using OTDRs, power meters, and light sources. Apply knowledge of fiber color codes, fiber types, and industry best practices. Troubleshoot and repair damaged or compromised fiber lines as needed. Install and maintain both aerial and underground fiber optic networks. Accurately document all splicing and testing activities and maintain project records. Ensure all work meets company standards, industry regulations, and client specifications. Adhere to all safety protocols, guidelines, and best practices at all times.
Qualifications: Minimum of 2 years of fiber splicing experience, preferably in a BAU (Business As Usual) environment. Proficiency with splicing equipment such as Fujikura, Sumitomo, and AFL. Strong knowledge of OTDR testing, fiber troubleshooting, and fiber characterization techniques. Ability to work independently in a variety of environments, including indoor, outdoor, and confined spaces. High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and excellent problem-solving ability. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Flexibility to travel and work varied hours, including evenings and weekends when required.
