The Role:
Reporting to the Vice President, Mining and Mineral Resources, the Director, Resource Geology acts as the company’s Qualified Person (QP) for Mineral Resource sign-off and is responsible for leading the company-wide Mineral Resources & Mineral Reserves (MRMR) disclosure process, coordinating contributions across disciplines to ensure accurate and timely public reporting. This role will also be responsible for ensuring resource estimations are carried out on operating mines, potential mine projects, and advanced exploration discoveries.
Key Responsibilities:
•Sign off as the Qualified Person (QP) for Mineral Resource disclosures in accordance with NI 43-101 and other applicable regulations.
•Lead and coordinate the company’s annual MRMR disclosure process, ensuring consistency and integration of Mineral Resource and Reserve estimates.
•Collaborate with mining QPs to ensure Reserves are accurately reflected and appropriately documented in the year-end disclosure.
•Provides guidance to individual mine, project, or exploration units on the preparation of mineral resource and reserve estimations, and to monitor and audit the QA/QC and estimation procedures applied.
•Oversees all aspects of resource geology within the Life-of-Mine cycle and ensures adherence to company and regulatory standards
•Audit and review site geological practices including: long-term and short-term block model estimation, domaining, drillhole composites, variography, and QA/QC protocols
•Leads or assists in the preparation of internally completed Technical Reports, Preliminary Assessments or Pre-feasibility Studies. To review studies, as above, carried out by third party consultants.
•Provides advice, guidance, and auditing, where appropriate, on mineral resource and reserve estimation to companies in which the organization has made a strategic investment.
•Assists in business development and mergers and acquisition activity by providing broad geological overviews and assessments of the mineral resource and reserve estimations of target companies or projects.
•Participates in “public information” reviews, site visits and technical due diligence exercises of target companies or projects.
•Keeps up to date with the latest mineral resource and reserve estimation disclosure standards. The company reports to NI 43-101 standards but developments by JORC, SAMREC, IMMM, SEC etc. are to be monitored.
•Champion a Zero Harm culture and embody the organization’s core values in all actions.
What You Bring:
•Must hold an advanced degree in Geological Sciences or a relevant field. A graduate degree or specialty training in Geostatistics is an asset.
•Minimum 15 years of experience working in the resource geology field required.
•Recognized as a Qualified Person (QP) for NI 43-101 sign-off of Mineral Resources with a strong understanding of NI 43-101, JORC and SK-1300.
•Advanced 3D modelling skills and ability with standard resource estimation software
•Strong ability to lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing technical team.
