About This Job

We’re looking for a Bus Crew Lead responsible for the full execution and oversight of substation and electrical projects. The Crew Lead is expected to interpret complex drawings, manage on-site safety and workflow, coordinate resources, and ensure compliance with project specifications and client standards. The role also includes providing mentorship to field staff, maintaining clear communication with leadership, and serving as the on-site representative for quality, safety, and project execution.

What You’ll Do:

- Lead field crews of up to 5 staff through all phases of bus duct projects — from planning and site prep to execution and closeout — ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency.

- Promote a strong safety culture by managing LOTO planning and execution, conducting site reviews and job walks, ensuring compliance with safety protocols/PPE, and proactively identifying and correcting hazards.

- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, subcontractors, and internal teams, providing consistent updates and representing RMS Energy professionally on-site.

- Review test reports, drawings, and project scope to plan and lead projects effectively, ensuring alignment with engineering requirements and customer expectations.

- Apply working knowledge of electrical systems, substation construction, power plant environments, and testing practices to guide project activities.

- Coordinate labor, materials, tooling, and subcontractor activities, aligning resources with project schedules and scope.

- Oversee the installation, modification, and retrofitting of bus duct systems, including transformer and generator connections, switchgear interfaces, and support structures.

- Direct general inspection and diagnostic activities, such as IR thermography, visual inspections, and condition assessments.

- Lead maintenance and life-extension efforts, including cleaning, plating, and rating upgrades, ensuring compliance with engineering standards.

Oversee the removal and replacement of damaged or obsolete components, ensuring proper procedures and minimal disruption.

Ensure proper use and maintenance of company tools, vehicles, and equipment by field personnel.

Review and approve jobsite documentation, including daily safety checks, work reports, and completion signoffs.

Mentor and guide crew members, supporting skill development and reinforcing RMS Energy’s safety and quality standards.

Assume other duties as assigned.

The Experience We’re Looking For:

- 5+ years of field leadership experience in substation or bus installation

- Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations, PPE protocols, and jobsite safety

- Skilled in industrial rigging and equipment handling in high-voltage environments

- Ability to interpret and execute complex installation plans and blueprints

- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word for field documentation

- Familiarity with MV and HV equipment and related safety standards

Additional Requirements:

- Willingness to travel 75%+ for field-based work across the U.S.

- Eligible for TWIC card (required for secured job sites)

- Must successfully complete a background check and pre-employment/random drug tests

- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

- Available to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as needed

- Able to lift 50+ lbs., crawl, climb, and perform hands-on work in the field

- OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred

- Must complete annual safety training; some training may require out-of-state travel

Bonus Points for:

- Experience leading bus duct installation projects or aluminum welding teams

- TWIC card already in hand

- Background working in confined spaces or at heights (100+ ft)

- Demonstrated success managing teams in challenging environments
