Summary
This is a full time position that is responsible for the efficient, safe, and reliable operating condition of the control and electrical systems, on the companies drilling rigs. The position is responsible for performing all aspects of mechanical maintenance, trouble-shooting, and repairing of: electrical equipment and systems, automated equipment, and control systems; including hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and PLC Systems (Siemens and Allen Bradley).

•Provide support during equipment installations and upgrades including:
•Spec’ing appropriate equipment
•Physically setting up and maintaining electronics, instruments, automation, and measurement equipment
•Ensuring vendors and contractors are meeting our needs and expectations
•Keeps equipment operational, and ensures service quality, by:
•Completing preventive maintenance requirements following manufacturer's or company instructions.
•Troubleshooting all electronic and data acquisition equipment, computers and PLCs. Adjust, repair or replace faulty components. Call for repairs when required, and approved.
•Troubleshoot, diagnose problems and repair plant mechanical, instrumentation, and electrical systems using technical drawings (e.g., blueprints, electronic/mechanical schematics wiring diagrams, specifications, drawings, manuals, blueprints and engineering sketches.) and diagnostic tools (e.g. multi-meter, laptop).
•Identifying and correcting errors in programming and wiring.
•Identify and recommend changes to improve rig performance utilizing existing or new control systems;
•Make program modifications in PLC’s logic, HMI’s programs and servo controller logic to improve equipment performance.
•Respond quickly and aggressively to down time
•Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
•Conserves resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
•Documents actions by completing appropriate production and quality forms, in a timely manner.
•Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed, communicate with multiple departments. Responsible for assisting other technicians with maintenance and repair duties; including training co-workers on the safe and efficient techniques to maintain electrical system operations and equipment.
•Routinely performing safety observations and attending technical, developmental and safety trainings. Participate in the safety programs and/or committees; follow all site safety policies, company policies and procedures work safely and wear appropriate PPE.
•Obtain and maintain licenses, operator permits or certifications as required.
•Being on-call and responding to calls twenty-four/seven (24/7) for emergency response.

Qualifications

Required Education, Experience and/or Abilities
•A high school diploma or equivalent education with two (2) years of specialized technical training and/or five (5) years of industrial maintenance experience; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.
•Strong organizational and verbal skills and proven ability to maintain accurate, detailed records that will be audited periodically.
•Effectively present information and respond to questions.
•Knowledge of PLCs, VFDs, Servos, Ethernet and communication systems as related to drilling rig automation.
•Operational knowledge of an oscilloscope & multi-meter, soldering wires & connectors, operation of various crimping tools, wire stripping, ohm’s law, continuity testing, pinning out a military type connector, routing & tie wrapping cables, drilling & tapping holes, and building junction boxes.
•Advanced understanding and ability to troubleshoot, replace, and configure sensors and instrumentation such as photo-eyes, proximity switches, pressure, flow, level and temperature sensors.
•Proficient in understanding and ability to troubleshoot root cause, configure, and replace non-similar controls hardware, such as input/output modules, human machine interfaces (HMIs), safety relays, and other industrial controls.
•Advanced electrical knowledge and understanding of electrical safety, and national electrical codes
•Able to work on multiple control voltages (DC/AC) and know the safe work practices for up to 600V systems.
•Ability to read and interpret P&ID drawings, pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical schematics for use in system understanding and troubleshooting.
•Ability to work on multiple projects at once and produce accurate work within tight deadlines.
•Travel required for training and to regularly conduct business with and meet with vendors/suppliers.
•Must be a self-starter and have the desire and ability to take ownership and responsibility with little direction.
•Ability to work in a diverse team environment.
•Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
•Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Preferred Education, Experience and/or Abilities
•A degree or certificate in electronics, automation, or control systems.
•Prior experience in hydraulics, pneumatics, HVAC, PLC, VFD, and electrical systems.
Computer Skills
•General knowledge of basic hardware and software and uses of a variety of different computer operating systems such as Microsoft Office Work, Excel, Outlook, Google Workspace, and web-site software.
•Knowledge in Data Acquisition concepts, hardware, and interfacing
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
•Possession of a valid driver’s license with a clean MVR (Motor Vehicle Record).

•English language fluency, verbal and written.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. This position frequently requires long hours and/or weekend work.
Travel
This position generally requires up to 100% travel during the course of the business day. This position may require up to 75% overnight travel. Travel is typically within the United States.
