Round Mountain is an open-pit mine located in Nevada, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world. The mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods and processes ore by mill and heap leach. Kinross began operating the mine in 2003, and it has since become a continuous improvement leader in the Company’s portfolio. Round Mountain poured its 15 millionth ounce in 2018. Round Mountain and the nearby Bald Mountain mine make up Kinross’ Nevada operations.
The Round Mountain mine is an important contributor to the Nye County economy and, working with local stakeholders, has helped achieve significant improvements in healthcare and education in the area.
Job Description
Under the general supervision of the Geology Manager, the incumbent is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the assay laboratory, while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values.
Job Responsibilities
•Ensures that assay operations are conducted in a safe and efficient manner by orientating and training new employees and ensuring that all laboratory equipment is maintained in good condition. Assigns work to personnel and respond to questions on a daily basis. Monitors work in progress and completed work, implementing changes where deemed necessary. Reviews performance and make recommendations for daily and annual reviews, promotion, transfer, discipline or dismissal.
•Performs and supervises the preparation of standardized solutions for calibration purposes, participating in daily production assays and analyzing assay results. Report and follow up on discrepancies.
•Reviews, adapts and develops analytical procedures in order to remain current with changing technology and industry practice.
•Maintains records of analytical determinations performed and results obtained, in a professional manner.
•Requisitions materials, supplies, and equipment as required for routine and project activities. Prepares capital expenditure requests for high value items.
•Performs administrative duties such as time cards, reports, and crew scheduling including vacation leave. Develops and sets up of relevant analytical procedures and ensure standardization.
•Develops internal and external quality assurance/quality control programs.
•Helps develop other department personnel to perform duties listed above.
•Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.

•Possessions of a valid driver’s license issued by state agency, or must be able to pass driver competency course and exam.

•Develops and implements a statistical control process for tracking ongoing quality and pointing out troubled areas.
Education and Experience
•Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific or technical field (e.g., Chemistry, Metallurgy, Geology, Ecology, Biology, Pharmacology, Veterinary Science, or other lab-intensive disciplines) preferred. Equivalent technical experience in analytical laboratories will also be considered.
•Formal training in analytical chemistry, chemical engineering, or assaying from a recognized institution preferred. Demonstrated on-the-job proficiency in wet chemistry or instrumental methods (e.g., fire assay, ICP-OES, AAS) is acceptable in lieu of formal credentials.
•Demonstrated proficiency in data interpretation, QA/QC workflows, and laboratory troubleshooting.
•Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with experience leading teams in laboratory or industrial settings preferred.
•General understanding of mining, mineral processing, or metallurgical assay workflows is preferred, but not required.
•Strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive skills with the ability to interact effectively across all levels of employees and management.
•At least 5–10 years of experience in laboratory operations, including 2+ years in a supervisory or lead role.
•Experience with statistical control processes, assay reconciliation, or laboratory accreditation protocols is an asset.
•Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a management team.
•Demonstrated administrative, organizational, and technical writing skills.
•Valid driver’s license required.

•Serves as a resource to other members of the technical work unit
